King Benni! Bafana Bafana legend McCarthy earning more than the Kenya President after taking Harambee Stars job - Reports

Benni McCarthy was unveiled on Monday, March 3, as the new Harambee Stars coach.

He took over Engin Firat, who quit after failing to help the country qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

Benni signed a two-year contract with the Football Kenya Federation with an option to extend it once he meets his targets.

There have been questions about why the former Manchester United strikers' coach would accept to coach the Harambee Stars.

Well, reports have it that the 47-year-old is set to receive a handsome package.

"It has now been revealed that McCarthy will take home $62,000 (Ksh8 million or R1,44 million) per month in salary and bonuses during his time in charge of Harambee Stars," Pulse Kenya reported.

If that is the case, then Benni earns more than Kenya's president, His Excellency Dr. William Ruto.

The head of state is paid Sh1.4 million a month, which is R200,000.

Benni's immediate task will be in the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifier against the Gambia before hosting Gabon.

However, his main task will be to help the Harambee Stars deliver in the 2024 Chan, which Kenya will co-host with Tanzania and Uganda.
