    WHAT HAPPENED?

After their humiliating 10th-place finish in the Premier Soccer League, Kaizer Chiefs brought new faces to help in rebuilding the team for the 2024/25 season.

Former Young African SC and AS FAR Rabat coach Nasreddine Nabi was also brought in to engineer the team's anticipated rise to the top of Mzansi football.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Back-to-back PSL wins against Marumo Gallants and AmaZulu later turned out to be a false start for the Soweto giants.

They have since lost against the defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United before drawing with Magesi FC respectively.

This contrasts with their rivals Orlando Pirates who are flying high; they have won a club record seven PSL wins in a row.

As Bucs enjoy a 21-point lead on top of the table, Amakhosi are on seven points. However, the Bafana defender Given Msimango believes nothing is done.

    WHAT MSIMANGO SAID

“It's a wide-open league in my opinion. Congratulations to Pirates, they've shown a good level of consistency hence they are where they are; on top of the log," the 27-year-old told the media.

“We must try to get to the same level if not better in terms of consistency because we are happy with our performances despite the results.”

    AND WHAT IS MORE

Last season, Msimango played 25 league matches for the Glamour Boys. However, the arrival of Inacio Miguel has seen him struggle for game time. Nevertheless, the former TS Galaxy captain is determined to win back his place.

“For me, it is to remain the professional that I am. I've come to a point in my career that I understand that football is seasonal and has phases within one's career,” he opened up.

“Right now, I am in a different phase and I understand that not playing has its toll on a player but I need to stay professional and stay ready and prepared to do my job when I am called upon.

"When the opportunity comes, Given Msimango will always be ready," Msimango concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Msimango is expected to start against Richards Bay in the Premier Soccer League fixture to be played at the FNB Stadium owing to Inacio Miguel's suspension.

The center-back has to convince coach Nabi to consider him regularly by putting in a decent shift.
