    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs have been struggling for consistency this season, and they face the risk of missing out on a Premier Soccer League top-eight spot for a second season running.

The Soweto giants host Polokwane City at FNB Stadium in what will be their final league match of the campaign.

It is a must-win for ninth-placed Amakhosi, who are pushing to play in the MTN8 next term, and defender Dillan Slomons feels it would be a catastrophe if they fail to finish in the top half.

    WHAT SOLOMONS SAID

"For us to get in the top eight will mean we've had a successful season," said Solomons, as per Times Live.

"Not getting in the top eight, I wouldn't say it's not successful, but it's not what we want. We want to be in every competition next season.

"That was the goal, to try and get into the top eight, get into Caf and try to win a trophy. That's what we were aiming for. For us, not getting into the top eight will be a disaster."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chiefs will be playing Polokwane, who are seventh on the table, with two points more than them.

That makes this a high-stakes confrontation to cap a long season for teams that have faced their own share of difficulties.

Polokwane City were at one stage on an impressive run this season, threatening to take up third spot, but they are currently on a 13-match winless streak.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?

Chiefs are still bullish from winning the Nedbank Cup and would want that to spur them against troubled Rise and Shine, who last won a PSL match in February.

But Polokwane City would want to ride on Chiefs' inconsistency after the Soweto giants dropped points against Sekhukhune United last weekend when they were fresh from Nedbank Cup triumph and are on an eight-match winless run in the league.
