    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs have announced the exit of their DStv Diski Challenge midfielder Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi who led them to the reserve league title.

This comes after a period of speculation that the reserve team captain was on his way to TS Galaxy.

Nkosi's departure also follows the release of another key DDC midfielder, Sihle Tati, who is also set to join the Rockets while Sabelo Radebe, an Amakhosi development product, has also parted ways with the Soweto giants.

  • WHAT CHIEFS SAID

"We bid an emotional farewell to our reserves captain, Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi — a true leader both on and off the pitch," Chiefs announced in a statement.

"From rising through our youth academy ranks to leading the Kaizer Chiefs reserves with heart, discipline, and pride — Ntando has left a mark that will live far beyond the final whistle.

"Your journey has been nothing short of inspiring. You led with courage, played with passion, and wore the armband like it was woven into your soul," the club added.

"We thank you for your service to the badge, your leadership in the locker room, and the unforgettable moments in gold & black.

"All the best in your next chapter, captain. 👊"

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The release of these young players who were key for Amakhosi's reserve side might be interpreted, in some quarters, as a lack of trust in rising stars by first team coach Nasreddine Nabi.

This is in stark contrast to Pirates, who have been showing some belief in youngsters who started enjoying first-team football towards the end of the 2024/25 season.

Chiefs parting ways with reserve team players might see Nabi heavily relying on the transfer market to beef up his squad for next season.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?

Other Chiefs' DDC players like top scorer Naleli Hlongwane and left-back Kabelo Nkgwesa were promoted to the first team.

This is after they were also key for Chiefs in winning the DDC title.
