    WHAT HAPPENED?

For a second season running, Kaizer Chiefs finished outside the top eight of the Premier Soccer League table.

That has created the need to reinforce their squad with quality players for next term.

Coach Nasreddine Nsabi has already created space for new signings by releasing midfielder Sabelo Radebe, who struggled on his loan spell at Richards Bay this season.

    WHAT CHIEFS SAID

"Kaizer Chiefs have officially parted ways with attacking midfielder, Sabelo 'Bibo' Radebe," Amakhosi announced in a statement.

"Radebe, now 25, joined Amakhosi as a teenager and progressed through the junior ranks in the Kaizer Chiefs Youth Development Academy before moving up to the reserve team in the 2017/18 season.

"He signed after earning a spot in the senior team in the 2020/21 season, following an impressive performance in the DStv Diski Challenge.

"Last season, he had a one-year loan spell at KwaZulu-Natal-based Richards Bay FC," the club added.

"We wish Bibo all the best in his future endeavours."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

While Chiefs are releasing Radebe, their rivals are celebrating having youngsters coming through their development ranks and making a huge impact in the first team.

Orlando Pirates are a big example after a season in which the likes of Mbekeseli Mbokazi, goalkeeper Siyabonga Dladla, Yanga Madiba, Mohau Nkota, Simphiwe Selepe and Xemran Dansin were unearthed.

However, Amakhosi would be hoping the likes of Amajita stars Naledi Hlongwane, Takalani Mazhamba, Sifiso Timba, Kabelo Nkgwesa and Ofentse Kgosana would graduate to be instrumental first team players.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS

After finishing the PSL season outside of the top eight for the second consecutive term, Amakhosi will be desperate for improvement in the coming campaign.

It remains to be seen if Nabi will be retained despite the poor league performance, despite ending the club's decade-long trophy drought by winning the Nedbank Cup.
