<p>Rooney played in United's first New Generation Cup game against Atlanta and was unable to help his side avoid a 4-0 defeat to Atlanta United. WHAT HAPPENED?

<p>There were high hopes for United going into the season but a 4-0 defeat to begin the tournament is a dismal one. Rooney and his team-mates will have to pick themselves up, though, as they have two more group games to play. Atlanta, though, impressed, with Ivory Covington scoring twice. </p>

THE BIGGER PICTURE

<p>United's Under-15s feature more than one player with a famous father, as Rooney has a team-mate by the name of Jacey Carrick, the son of United legend and Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick. He has been in the academy since the age of six. </p>
