  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Sancho was criticised after he wrote "freedom" on a Rashford social media post following the latter's Aston Villa debut. Now, former United stopper Foster believes this illustrates how "unhappy" a place the club's dressing room must be.

    WHAT BEN FOSTER SAID

The former Wrexham keeper said on his podcast: "What is he [Sancho] doing? That's ridiculous because he is still actually employed by Manchester United, so is Marcus Rashford. It just reeks of toxicity at United. It reeks of an unhappy place to be, that everybody's buzzing for someone to get out [of the club]."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Sancho was frozen out at United under former boss Erik ten Hag, before he had a loan stint at Borussia Dortmund and then agreed a loan-to-buy deal at Chelsea in 2024. And Rashford was exiled under current Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim. Coupled with United's struggles, the optics at the club are not good at all.

    WHAT NEXT?

Incidentally, Sancho could feature for Chelsea away to Brighton on Friday and Rashford may get more game time when Villa host Ipswich Town a day later.
