    Vilakazi's impressive outing

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mfundo Vilakazi was one of Amajita's impressive performers at the 2025 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Chile.

South Africa's campaign ended in the Round of 16 and Vilakazi was the Man of the Match in the group match against USA after providing two assists and he was also on target against Colombia.

The Amakhosi wonderkid explains how he gained experience from participating in the World Cup.

    Lessons from Chile

“The experience in Chile as was very good and I also worked hard and I tried to help the country to win and unfortunately we lost in the last 16 round,” Vilakazi said as per iDiski Times.

"But I’m happy with the guys’ [teammates] performance. It was a great experience.

“I gained a lot of experience and learned not to rush some decisions on the pitch; and I think that’s going to help me on my return to the club to help the team, to score goals and to assist.”

Gaining experience, sharpening for the PSL and Africa

The World Cup in Chile was a different football environment from the Premier Soccer League and that might be how Vilakazi managed to gain experience.

He was also part of the Amajita side that was crowned African champions.

That might come in handy for him as Amakhosi take part in the CAF Confederation Cup, another level of football different to the PSL.

Former Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson who gave Vilakazi his Amakhosi first-team debut was left impressed and believes the teenager deserves to be a regular starter for Chiefs and ultimately play in Europe.

    What comes next?

Vilakazi has been included in the Chiefs squad that travelled to DR Congo for Saturday's Confederation Cup second preliminary round, first leg clash with AS Simba.

High in confidence after a good outing at the World Cup, Vilkazi might be thrown in to start for Chiefs and build up on his momentum.
