    WHAT HAPPENED?

In the January transfer window, Bafana Bafana assistant captain Percy Tau left Al Ahly for Qatar SC.

It was a foreseen move after a reported fallout between him and coach Marcel Kohler.

The 30-year-old joined Qatar Stars League side Qatar SC.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos had asked Tau to consider leaving the Red Devils to boost his chances with the national team.

The Belgian even snubbed the Lion of Juddah in the recent two international breaks.

However, it seems everything is set to change since Tau is already settling in Qatar.

Broos is happy with Tau, which might see him get another chance with the national team.

    WHAT BROOS SAID

"I was happy that he left Al Ahly because the last time he came in [for camp] it’s a good thing for him," he told the media.

"Okay we will see what happens with him there in Qatar, I don’t think it’s such a big difference in the level of Qatar and the Egyptian League. Okay, Egypt is better okay, but the important thing is for him to play [regularly].

"It’s something he wasn’t doing for a year, either injured or on the bench, the coach didn’t [start him], so I am happy he changed teams, and let’s hope he plays more now," Broos concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Tau has to continue delivering for the King in all the competitive assignments and prove his critics wrong.

It is interesting to see whether Broos will consider having him in his next squad once the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers resume in March.
