    Broos' flaw

Former Bafana Bafana defender Matthew Booth has pointed out what he believes is Hugo Broos' major flaw.

Booth stated that Broos has overlooked foreign-based players, and this should not be the case while managing the national team.

    Overlooked

“One of the few criticisms about Broos is that he hasn’t really looked at overseas players much since he arrived here. I don’t think that should be the case,” Booth told FARPost.

“He should travel and watch, and to reassure, let players overseas know that he is keeping tabs on them," he added.

    Inclusive approach

Although Booth believes it might not be right for the Belgian to change his squad now, he would like to see his successor follow a more inclusive approach.

“I think that is very important. I don’t think he has done enough of that. Now with the squad having qualified for the World Cup, it’s not right to change the squad because this is the squad that has worked very hard to qualify.”

“So, I think whichever coach takes over after the 2026 World Cup, I would like to see that coach be an inclusive coach. Try to get to Europe as much as possible, watch as many PSL games as possible, and cast the net wider,” concluded Booth.

    Will Broos change?

Indeed, Broos' squads have been dominated by players featuring in the PSL, and that is expected not to change because those stars have helped him achieve his goals.

Qualification for the African Cup of Nations and the World Cup have been top priorities for the Belgian, and both achievements have been registered.

In fact, the starting squad that faced Rwanda in a crucial qualifier was made of PSL-only stars and managed to win.

Players from abroad who have been considered to complement the locally based ones are Burnley's Lyle Foster, Sphephelo Sithole of Tondela, Mohau Nkota of Al-Ettifaq, and Siyabonga Ngezana of FCSB.
