The Argentina U23 international completed his transfer to the south Florida club last month, sealing yet another Argentine reunion after the signing of Messi and appointment of Tata Martino at the helm last term. Naturally, Redondo hailed the Albiceleste icon as the "best player in history", and admitted that his presence at Miami influenced the decision to move to MLS.

    WHAT REDONDO SAID

Speaking at his first press conference as a Miami player, where he was also presented with the No.55 shirt, Redondo told reporters: "It's a team full of stars and a very ambitious club that is looking to win titles and compete at the top, which caught my attention [for the move]. Obviously Messi being at this club played a big part in my decision. He is the best player in history and to be able to share the pitch with him is a dream. In terms of my position, [I will play] where they need me. At Argentinos [Juniors, his former club] I played both as the 'five' [holding midfielder], inside right, inside left. I feel comfortable in all those positions that I think I can play [well]."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Redondo, son of Real Madrid and AC Milan great Fernando, was available for selection from Monday after his visa was approved. He will take the place of compatriot Facundo Farias who is sidelined for the season with an ACL injury. And as for meeting a host of his fellow countrymen in Miami, Redondo revealed he has actually met Messi before, explaining: "I've been with Messi before, I've trained with Argentina's senior team and I was able to take a photo with him. I’ve been watching him forever, but I don’t remember the first time."

    WHAT NEXT FOR REDONDO?

After being passed eligible to play, the 21-year-old midfielder is available for selection by Martino for Thursday's CONCACAF Champions Cup fixture away to Nashville. Miami qualified for the last-16 of that tournament thanks to a Messi-inspired Leagues Cup win last season.
