Ex-Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt picks 'that little man from Mamelodi Sundowns' as PSL Footballer of the Season

The 2024/25 Premier Soccer League awards are yet to be held and the nominees in various categories have also not been revealed.

But former Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt believes Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Lucas Ribeiro Costa deserves to be named the Footballer of the Season.

"My Footballer of the Season is that little man from Mamelodi Sundowns, Lucas Ribeiro," said Hunt as per KickOff. 

"What set Ribeiro apart from other players is that he scored goals and he created goals. That's the most important thing."

As expected, the PSL Footballer of the Season award has divided opinion.

While Ribeiro appears to have most of the backing, the name of Orlando Pirates midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula has also emerged and, interestingly, with former Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana vouching for him.

Relebohile Mofokeng has also been mentioned, but he appears to be an outside contender.

Traditionally, PSL awards are held in June, but they have been postponed due to Sundowns' participation in the Fifa Club World Cup.

They are likely to be held in July when teams are back for pre-season training.
