'There's a line' - Erik ten Hag makes final statement on Marcus Rashford after Man Utd star's 12-hour nightclub bender as he fires 'discipline' warning to entire squad

Rashford called in sick for training after a 12-hour nightclub bender in Belfast last week, and was subsequently left out of United's win over Newport in the FA Cup fourth round. The club have since issued a statement confirming that the 26-year-old has "taken responsibility" for his actions, and after reportedly being fined two-weeks wages, he is once again available for selection.

Ten Hag vowed to "deal with" Rashford after the Newport game, but now considers the "internal matter" to be "closed" with Rashford eager to make amends. The United boss did, however, fire a warning to the whole squad when addressing the incident for the final time at a press conference on Wednesday. "In football, you need discipline - that's on the pitch but also off the pitch," he said. "There's a line between, when every player, every pro knows this, what is required."

Rashford has endured a miserable 2023-24 campaign so far, scoring just four goals in 20 Premier League matches, and his dip in form has coincided with a major decline for the United squad as a collective. Ten Hag's side suffered early exits in the Carabao Cup and Champions League, and have fallen to ninth in the Premier League, 11 points adrift of the top-four.

Rashford will hope to return to Ten Hag's starting XI when United take in a crucial trip to Wolves on Thursday night. Mason Mount won't be involved as he continues his recovery from a calf issue, but United will also be able to call on their number one goalkeeper again, with Andre Onana back in Manchester after his AFCON exertions with Cameroon. "Mount, it is too soon. But Onana will return," Ten Hag confirmed when quizzed on their availability by reporters.
