  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    FIFA has released its first 2025 Women's World Rankings, and the U.S. women's national team remain on top at No. 1 to begin the calendar year.

    A total of 196 teams are listed in the entire ranking -- the highest number ever by FIFA.

    The U.S. still remain on top despite falling to Japan in the final of the SheBelieves Cup. The team who handed Emma Hayes her first loss in charge of the U.S., Japan climbed up three spots into fifth, entering the top five for the first time since 2015.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

    The top 10 of the ranking remained the same besides Japan's leap up the table, with the top four unchanged.

    Following the U.S., in order, are Spain at No. 2, Germany No. 3, and England No. 4 - followed by Japan in fifth. Sweden at No. 6, Canada at No. 7 and Brazil at No. 8 all moved down one spot, while Korea DPR and the Netherlands remained ninth and 10th from the final ranking in 2024.

    The next edition of the FIFA Women’s World Ranking will be published on June 12, 2025.

    Tanzania and Kenya moved up the highest amount in the rankings, with both CAF nations moving up seven spots.
