David Beckham paid secret visit to beloved Old Trafford receptionist Kath Phipps before her death as Man Utd legend gives touching tribute

Known as a cornerstone of the club's history, Phipps dedicated an incredible 56 years of her life to Manchester United, beginning her journey in 1968 as a telephone switchboard operator during Sir Matt Busby's legendary era. Over the decades, she became a beloved figure at Old Trafford, celebrated for her unwavering loyalty, warmth, and influence that extended far beyond her official roles.

According to The Sun, Beckham travelled to see her just two weeks before her death, sharing an emotional moment with the woman who had been an integral part of his early years at the club.

“David made it his mission to go to see Kath at home. It was an incredibly emotional moment," a source said.

Phipps played a pivotal role in Beckham's life, offering guidance and support from the moment he joined the club as a teenager. Reflecting on her importance, Beckham posted a deeply moving tribute on Instagram, alongside a photo of the two holding hands - seemingly confirming that visit. The 49-year-old wrote: "Forever in our hearts... The first and last face I would always see was Kath sat at reception at Old Trafford waiting to give me my tickets for the game , she was the heartbeat of Manchester United , everyone knew who Kath was and everyone adored her... I moved up to Manchester at 15 and Kath made a promise to my mum and dad " I'll look after your boy for you don't you worry " and from that first day till the last day I spent with her that's exactly what she did. Old Trafford will never be the same without your smile as we walk through those doors... We love you."

Manchester United have also announced plans to honour Phipps' memory. Ahead of their Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford, a minute of applause will take place to commemorate her remarkable contributions. The players will don black armbands during the match as a mark of respect. Similarly, the club's women’s team will pay their tributes when they face Liverpool in a Women’s Super League match at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday.
