    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kamohelo Mokotjo left Cape Town City at a time when the club finds itself in an unfamiliar and tense position. Since their formation, City have never faced the threat of relegation, but now they are just 45 minutes away from learning their fate.

They could either survive the drop or fall into the promotion/relegation play-offs. The pressure has mounted after a poor run of form to end the season. Speaking after the weekend's games, interim coach Diogo Peral addressed Mokotjo's departure.

He stated that he had no issues with the experienced midfielder and enjoyed working with him. Peral expressed respect for Mokotjo’s professionalism and wished him well in his next chapter.

    WHAT PERAL SAID

“I don’t know if I am the right person to be commenting on what happened with Mokotjo. I think that was part of planning for next season already,” Peral said as reported by Farpost.

“For me, I didn’t have a problem with Mokotjo; it was a pleasure to work with him, a gentleman and a good player. So I can only tell you from my point of view. I had no problem.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Peral managed to get a crucial point in his final match of the season.

The draw came against Stellenbosch, a side that has already secured a place in next season’s Caf Confederation Cup.

It was a hard-fought performance that could prove vital for City's survival. Peral’s short tenure brought some stability at a difficult time.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CITY?

Cape Town City have now completed their fixtures and must wait for the result between SuperSport United and Golden Arrows.

A win or draw for United could push City down to 15th and into the dreaded relegation play-offs.

It's a nervous wait for the club and their supporters as their top-flight status hangs in the balance.
