As per reports from <a href="https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/barca-empieza-encarrilar-fichaje-cancelo-100661635" target="_blank">SPORT</a>, Barcelona have intimated to the Premier League side that they intend to sign the full-back this summer. They signed the 29-year-old from Pep Guardiola's side on loan after he was frozen out of the squad by the Spaniard <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-in/lists/joao-cancelo-accuses-pep-guardiola-lies-ungrateful-man-city-rant-right-choice-loan-despite-missing-champions-league/blt2ba8bdc3e4a81090" target="_blank">following multiple disagreements between the duo</a>.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The Catalans will still have to enter talks with the Premier League champions as they cannot afford the Cityzen's asking price of €40 million (£34m/$43m) for the Portugal international. It is likely that the treble holders will agree to a reduced price or another loan deal with a mandatory buy clause in 2025.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Cancelo himself is very keen to stay with the defending La Liga champions past the summer and has also shown a lot of promise under Xavi this season, having scored four goals for the club as more of an inverted wing-back. He has appeared in 33 games for the Blaugrana.
