Bafana Bafana reap rewards from wins against Lesotho and Benin in 2026 World Cup qualifiers as Hugo Broos' side move up in Fifa world rankings

Many countries in Africa took part in the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers, hoping to get favourable result.

The 1996 African champions registered two wins under coach Hugo Broos.

Bafana did well in their Group C games.

Broos' men beat Lesotho 2-0 at home, a result that has since been contested, before beating Benin away by the same margin.

South Africa have a chance of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup to be jointly held by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

The recent results have positively impacted Bafana Bafana, who have now moved up in the most recent Fifa rankings.

They are now 56th in the world and among the best 10 in Africa.

Other teams in the top 10 continentally are Egypt, Algeria, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Tunisia, Cameroon, Morocco, Senegal, and Mali.

Regardless of the Lesotho 'case' outcome, Bafana Bafana can still go all the way and qualify for the 2026 Fifa World Cup if they get the needed result in the remaining Group C games.
