Bafana Bafana claimed a vital 2-0 win over Benin in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on Tuesday night in Group C's Fifa World Cup qualifier.

The first half was played cautiously by either side since neither wanted to concede, owing to the magnitude of the fixture.

The deadlock was broken in the 53rd minute. A good ball from the back was controlled by the Stellenbosch defender, Fawaaz Basadien, who crossed it to the advancing Lyle Foster.

The forward did well to squeeze the ball past the advancing goalkeeper.

Substitute Jayden Adams then scored the vital second in the 84th minute to assure Bafana the crucial win.

Bafana are now on 13 points, five more than Benin and Rwanda with Nigeria on seven points.

    THE MVP

Basadien was solid in his initial game against Lesotho, which gave him Tuesday's ticket.

He delivered with a solid display defensively and offensively.

Provided an assist from which Lyle Foster scored from.

    THE BIG LOSER

Nigeria were hoping to beat Zimbabwe and continue pushing Bafana Bafana.

However, after their 2-0 win over Rwanda on match-day five, they shared spoils in the 1-1 draw with Zimbabwe.

    WHAT COMES NEXT?

Well, a decent outing for Bafana Bafana in their bid to play their first World Cup since 2010 when they hosted it.

If their points are not deducted for allegedly fielding an ineligible Teboho Mokoena against Lesotho, Hugo Broos' men might secure their ticket in match-day eight if, of course, they win their games and closest challengers fail to do so.

Bafana Bafana will be away against Lesotho in the next outing in September before hosting Nigeria.
