Bring back Ben Foster! Wrexham completely outclassed by Salford City as Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney's promotion dreams suffer significant blow after Arthur Okonkwo shocker

Wrexham fell behind within the first 10 minutes, as Arthur Okonkwo made a mistake as he rushed out to claim a corner, and was left stranded. Theo Vassell was subsequently left with a free header, which he gleefully nodded home. And Salford added a second in remarkable circumstances, as Elliott Watt scored directly from a corner, floating in a powerful effort that Okonkwo simply got nowhere near, despite being on his line.

Wrexham pulled a goal back before half-time, as Sam Dalby finished from close-range after a Ben Tozer knock-down, netting his first strike of the season. However, Salford hit back just before the hour mark, as Matt Smith finished with a curling finish from 10 yards.

Phil Parkinson brought Luke Bolton on for his debut late on, having signed him on deadline day, but it was to no avail, as Wrexham were well-beaten. Indeed, they could have lost 4-1, but Junior Luamba's ferocious effort rattled the crossbar. As a result, they have dropped into the play-off spots, and been dealt a severe blow in their bid to gain automatic promotion to League One.

Watt scored directly from a corner, and it very much looked deliberate. He took aim, with Okonkwo slightly off his line, and sent the ball into the top far corner to embarrass the Wrexham goalkeeper. To score such a remarkable goal, when leading 1-0, gave Salford the momentum needed to see their victory out in comfortable fashion.

Okonkwo probably is not the goalkeeper Wrexham need right now. Making three high-profile mistakes in two games just isn't good enough - he also made a dismal error against Blackburn in the FA Cup - and you cannot expect to win games regularly when your shot-stopper is failing to catch corners. One has to think Wrexham would be more comfortable if they still had Ben Foster in goal.

Wrexham are next in action against Bradford City on February 10. They have now lost three games on the bounce in all competitions, and have subsequently dropped to fourth in the table.
