'Why does he shoot?!' - Arne Slot admits he was wrong as Liverpool boss reveals shock reaction to Darwin Nunez's stunning goal against Bournemouth

Nunez made his first start of the season for Liverpool under Slot's management against Bournemouth and he rewarded the Dutchman for selecting him as he scored a brilliant goal. The Uruguay international burst into the box and cut back, before unleashing a fierce effort into the top corner.

The Reds were 2-0 up at the time, thanks to Luis Diaz's brace, and Nunez added the cherry on top of the cake with his brilliant finish. Slot, though, admits that he thought at the time that the forward made an error in shooting from such a difficult angle.

Slot told reporters: "My first instinct when he shot, I said: 'Why does he shoot? Why don't you keep on dribbling?' Because he made the ball free and I think the defender was on the ground.

"But then there was a fraction of a second later when I saw the ball went in off the post and I was like, 'OK, maybe you are a better football player than I was in the past!' [A] good choice from him."

Liverpool play West Ham in the Carabao Cup in midweek before a clash with Wolves at Molineux next weekend.
