  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Liverpool fans unfurled flags mocking Arsenal manager Arteta and captain Odegaard at Anfield during Sunday's draw. Arsenal were Liverpool's main rivals for the league title this season but have seen their hopes for silverware be squashed over the past month or so, most recently being eliminated from the Champions League at the semi-final stage by Paris Saint-Germain.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The flags came out before kick-off at Anfield and gained traction on social media. Two quick-fire goals from Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz stole the attention once the action started on the field, but Arsenal fought back in the second half and grabbed a point courtesy of strikes from Gabriel Martinelli and Mikel Merino.

  • WHAT THE FLAGS SAID

The Reds beat the Gunners to the Premier League title and home supporters pulled out a flag poking fun at Arteta with the caption: 'Always the bridesmaid, never the bride.' There was also a tifo of Odegaard with a camera, referencing the Norwegian's celebrations after Arsenal's victory over Liverpool back in February 2024.
