Gordinho wants to make bigger impact for Bafana Bafana

Kaizer Chiefs defender Lorenzo Gordinho is thrilled with his hard-earned call-up to Bafana Bafana, and he wants to take the his club form into the national team if given a chance to play against Guinea-Bissau and Angola.

“For me it is important to take my club performance into the national team. It’s all about being consistent, performing well and hopefully cementing my place in the squad,” Gordinho told reporters.

The 22-year-old believes the call-up will help him achieve his ultimate dream of earning a move to Europe.

He underwent a trial with Aalborg BK earlier this year, but the club decided against signing him.

“It is important for every South African player to play for their national team. And for me it would be an achievement to be a regular in the team,” Gordinho said.

“But nothing is guaranteed. I have to work hard, hopefully the rest will follow,” Gordinho said.

The Johannesburg-born centre-back has been a key figure for Amakhosi alongside Eric Mathoho.

Not only has he shown his defensive qualities, but it’s more his goal-scoring abilities from set-pieces that have caught the eye of many football fans.
