Donkor joins Ashanti Gold in a two-year deal

Ashanti Gold have completed the signing of Eric Donkor from Asante Kotoko as a free agent.

The 28-year-old makes the switch from the FA Cup champions, signing a two-year deal and becoming the Miners' first major signing of the second transfer window.

Donkor, who joined Kotoko in 2011, was regarded as surplus to requirements by coach Paa Kwesi Fabin despite signing a one-year contract extension few months ago.

Following the arrival of Daniel Darkwah, Donkor found game time increasingly difficult, eventually terminating his contract by mutual consent.

"A lot of things have happened in the past but I'm excited with this opportunity at Ashanti Gold," Donkor told Goal .

"I came to sign the contract with my wife and kid because it meant a lot for me and my family. I don't want to disappoint the technical team and management of Ashanti Gold so I will do my best to repay their faith in me.

"Hopefully, we can win something big at the end of season. I thank everyone at Kotoko for the good moments we shared together in the past," he added.

With Ashanti Gold leading the Ghanaian Premier League log with 21 points, Donkor will have to compete with impressive Richard Dodji for a starting place in C.K Akonnor's defensive se-tup.
