Charles Taylor rips into current Kotoko playing body

Former Asante Kotoko star Charles Taylor has lashed out at the current team following their early elimination from the Caf Confederation Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors got bundled out of the continental inter club championship on Wednesday after losing to Congolese side CARA Brazzaville on penalties following 1-1 aggregate draw in the preliminary round fixture.

The players have not been spared any bit of backlash as from missing three penalties awarded them during normal time of the first leg at home, the Porcupine Warriors failed to convert four of their kicks in Wednesday's shootout on away soil.

“The players are not playing for the team but individually because they do not have the team at heart,” Taylor told Metro FM.

“There is no maturity in the level of play in the players and I think [executive board chairman Kwame] Kyei should sack all the players and bring committed players into the team.

“The current players at Kotoko are not committed and they are only concentrated on the money and promises to them.

“There is no seriousness in the players and it is about time the management and supporters told the players their mind.”

Ahead of the CARA double-header, players of the Porcupine Warriors were promised a two-bedrooom house each should they eventually win this year's title.

The wait to make amends for the final defeat to country rivals Hearts of Oak in the inaugural 2004 Confederation Cup, however, goes on.

Taylor played for Hearts between 2000 and 2003 after joining from city rivals Great Olympics, before controversially transferring to Kotoko.

The playmaker was a member of Hearts’ 2000 Caf Champions League winning squad as well Ghana’s under-23 team at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
