In a stunning move that's sure to shake up the NBA landscape, the Phoenix Suns have reportedly agreed to trade Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets, per ESPN's Shams Charania. The 15-time All-Star is heading to Houston in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the No. 10 pick in this year’s draft, and a haul of five second-rounders.

The blockbuster deal can be officially processed once the new league year kicks off on July 6. As for the picks heading Phoenix's way, they include the No. 59 selection in this year's draft, two second-rounders in 2026, one from Boston in 2030, and another in 2032.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Kevin Durant is a major coup for the Houston Rockets, giving them an elite shot-maker and offensive engine who slots in perfectly alongside their core. Even as he enters the twilight of his career, Durant continues to deliver, putting up 26.6 points, 6.0 boards, and 4.2 dimes per game last season.

Several franchises were in the mix for the 15-time All-Star this offseason—Miami, Minnesota, Toronto, and of course Houston, who ultimately won the race and secured the superstar. The move sees Durant join a No. 2-seeded Rockets team that notched 52 wins under head coach Ime Udoka and now look even more dangerous in the West, with Durant teaming up with 2025 All-Star Alperen Sengun, emerging two-way threat Amen Thompson, and veteran playmaker Fred VanVleet.

What’s more, Houston was one of Durant’s preferred landing spots, alongside Miami and San Antonio. His strong rapport with Udoka, built during their time with Team USA and the Brooklyn Nets, likely played a key role in the move. Just last week, the Rockets locked Udoka into a lucrative long-term deal, solidifying their foundation as they gear up for a title push.

    WHAT NEXT FOR DURANT?

It's a seismic swing for both sides—Houston brings in a future Hall of Famer to bolster its rising squad, while Phoenix resets with youth and a stockpile of picks for the road ahead.

Durant, heading into the final year of his current deal, is set to earn $54.7 million during the 2025–26 campaign. The veteran star turns 37 in September, but he showed he’s still got plenty left in the tank, suiting up for 62 games last season and averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks—numbers just shy of his career standard.

Come July 6, when the league calendar flips, Durant will also be eligible to ink a two-year extension worth up to $122 million, adding another layer of intrigue to his Houston chapter.
