C.J. Sapong converted a penalty kick in the 67th minute to level the score at 1-1. Rapids goal scorer Caleb Calvert was sent off for two yellow cards, along with assistant coach Conor Casey, reducing the side to 10 men. Then a few minutes later, Haris Medunjanin bent a beautiful free kick around the Rapids wall, leaving a stunned Howard rooted to the spot to give the Union the edge.

Howard was visibly upset after that goal, shouting and waving his arms emphatically.

The 2-1 scoreline was how it finished, giving the Union their fourth straight win. Meanwhile the Rapids slumped to their third straight loss and their eighth defeat in nine games.
