Thobani Mncwango to join Bidvest Wits early from Polokwane City

Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt on Friday confirmed that Thobani Mncwango will join his team from Polokwane City before the transfer window closes on January 31.

Mncwango signed a pre-contract with the Students earlier this month, but Hunt is working around the clock to have the South Africa international this month.

His fitness levels is of course a main concern, having played only two matches all season for Bernard Molekwa's men.

"We've got the boy [Mncwango] coming in. So, he will help us. He has not played [much this season]," Hunt told the media.

Hunt already has an idea on how he will utilize Mncwango for the remainder of the season.

"He can play wide and he can play down the middle. He's got a few goals and he's got a little bit of pace, [and that is] something we need. As I said he has not played in a long time. So, we will have a look and see what happens. It's like Keegan Ritchie as well; his fitness levels are not good. He needs to play and he will play. We've got lots of games," said Hunt.

The Students have struggled to find a consistent striker, with Amr Gamal, Eleazar Rodgers, James Keene, and Gabadinho Mhango all battling to score goals on a regular basis.

Keene along with new boy Lehlohonolo Majoro, appears to have rediscovered his goalscoring boots, but the latter endured another frustrating outing in front of goal in their 1-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic on Friday night.

The Englishman however, scored the winner against Siwelele on Friday to help Wits move out of the relegation zone for the first time season.

Mncwango joins amid interest from Orlando Pirates and he will be expected to hit the ground running as soon as he arrives, given that the Clever Boys have managed to score just 11 goals so far this season.

The 27-year-old is best remembered for the four goals he put past Ronwen Williams during his stay with the Rise and Shine in the 2015/16 season.
