Shaw tells Man Utd team-mates Ibrahimovic and Rojo 'don't rush back'

Luke Shaw has told Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo not to rush their respective recoveries after joining Manchester United’s lengthy injury list.

The pair have been key figures for the Red Devils this season, but both suffered knee ligament injuries during a Europa League clash with Anderlecht.

The season-ending setbacks have forced Ibrahimovic and Rojo under the knife, with a long period of rehabilitation stretching out in front of them.

Shaw knows all too well what the duo are going through, having suffered a double leg fracture in 2015, and has urged his team-mates to stay positive without pushing themselves too hard.

He told United Review: "One of the important things with these injuries is never to rush it.

"I'm sure they will want to get back as soon as possible, but with the extent of the injury and how important it is to make sure it recovers well, so they can get back to fitness, staying positive, is going to be hard. But you look at the end goal and keep fighting every day, keep trying to get better and better, and push yourself.

"The support they've got from all of us and all of the fans is a key factor. I think everybody has to be together in these hard times when you get a long injury. They are two strong characters. I am sure they will get through it and come back even stronger."

Shaw believes the atmosphere within the United camp will help to carry Ibrahimovic and Rojo through, even if the former may well have played his last game for the club as he prepares to reach the end of a 12-month contract.

He added: "It's a really good [the atmosphere]. We have got a mix of experience and youth.

“The experienced ones are always there to help us, the likes of Wazza, Youngy, Carras and Ibra. They all help if you need them and I have especially had a lot of help from Carras, which was nice in my situation.

“The togetherness is really strong in our squad, everyone is really close, gets on well and we all want the best for each other. We're all pushing for the same thing and that’s to win trophies."

United have kept themselves in contention for a top-four finish in the Premier League over recent weeks, while they also have a Europa League semi-final clash with Celta Vigo approaching.
