Orlando Pirates target Khama Billiat will reportedly remain with Sundowns if Percy Tau makes English switch

Mamelodi Sundowns talisman Percy Tau has reportedly attracted interest from English Premier League (EPL) club Brighton and Hove Albion, and French Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco.

Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane has already confirmed that EPL clubs have expressed their interest in Tau, who had a great 2017/18 season.

Mosimane admitted that it will be difficult for the Tshwane giants to retain Tau’s services with the speedy forward having inspired Sundowns to the 2017/18 Premier Soccer League (PSL) title.

The South Africa international scooped three awards at the prestigious PSL Awards last month. He walked away with the Footballer of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season and Golden Boot accolades.

Power FM have now disclosed that the English club who have tabled a strong bid for Tau, is Brighton, who were promoted to the EPL from the Championship at the end of the 2016/17 season.

Sundowns are now said to be considering selling one of their most prized assets to Brighton ahead of the upcoming PSL winter transfer which is set to open next month.

Recent reports have indicated Brazilians will only listen to offers of around around €3 million (+/-R45m) for Tau, who netted 11 goals and grabbed 15 assists during the recent season.

The radio station also reported that Sundowns will be able to retain highly-rated forward Khama Billiat’s services, should Tau’s proposed transfer to Brighton go through.

The Zimbabwe international, who recently helped his country win the 2018 Cosafa Cup, looks set to leave the Brazilians when his contract with the club expires at the end of this month.

Billiat has turned down new contract offers from Sundowns and he has been linked with Azerbaijan champions Qarabag FK, and a number of PSL clubs.

Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United are all said to be keen to snap up the 27-year-old forward, who scooped the 2015/16 PSL Player of the Season award.

It remains to be seen whether Sundowns will be able to convince Billiat to sign a new contract following Tau’s proposed departure to Brighton.
