Mamelodi Sundowns have already won the PSL title, says in-form Orlando Pirates midfielder Nyatama

Orlando Pirates central midfielder Musa Nyatama believes that Mamelodi Sundowns have already won the Premier Soccer League (PSL) title.

The Soweto giants kept their hopes of winning this season's league title alive with a 2-1 win over Lamotville Golden Arrowns at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban on Saturday night.

As a result, Pirates closed the gap to one point as they seat in second place on the league standings, while log leaders Sundowns have a game in hand.

“We needed the three points. We’ve been working very hard at training with our tactics so I’m happy with the points,” Nyatama told SuperSport TV.

Bucs scored through Thembinkosi Lorch and Mthokozisi Dube, while Jabulani Shongwe netted late for Abafana Bes'thende.

“We needed to make it a point that we score and dominate as well. In the first half, I think we didn’t take our chances but in the second half we managed to do so," he continued.

The 30-year-old Nyatama scooped the man of the match accolade following an impressive display in the middle of the park for the Buccaneers.

“So it was a nervous end, but I’m happy that we managed to win. We needed to keep the ball which is our game model and on one or two occasions we didn’t do it well,” he added.

“I’m sure we’ll work again at training on it so that we make it a point that we don’t lose concentration towards the end of the game," the former Sundowns midfielder indicated.

“Look, we are looking at ourselves to ensure we dominate and play well. But on that one, we are not looking at the league because Mamelodi Sundowns have won it already,” Nyatama concluded.

The Buccaneers will host Bloemfontein Celtic in a league game at the mecca of South African football, Orlando Stadium on Wednesday, 4 April 2018.
