Less than a month ago, Steve Komphela resigned in his position as head coach of Kaizer Chiefs following three barren seasons in charge.
It's the first time in the history of Chiefs that they have gone three full seasons without a major trophy, but with the coach now gone, life must go on.
The question everyone keeps asking is what's next for the 50-year-old mentor now that he's without one of the top jobs in South Africa if not the entire African continent.
Having been in charge of no less than five teams since becoming a qualified coach in 2002, Komphela is no doubt among the most experienced coaches in the country and it shouldn't be long until he lands himself a job at one of the PSL clubs ahead of next season.
It may be that Komphela would be spoiled for choice and opt to reject a few clubs given his standards and salary package following his two-and-a-half-year stay at Chiefs.

However, beggars are not choosers and therefore if he's to return to the dugout soon enough, then he will have to make a move before it's too late to afford himself enough time to settle at a new club.
For now, the best option would be to go to a team that is at least ambitious about winning trophies, especially after seeing luck elude him on several occasions whilst Chiefs.
Komphela has already been linked with a possible move to SuperSport United, who find themselves in an unfamiliar territory and in danger of finishing 15th on the log, and whether or not he has been approached is a topic for another day.
Should Matsatsantsa keep their PSL status for next season, then joining them wouldn't be such a bad move, considering the club's stature and the desire to always win trophies. This would help him grow further as a coach.

He could also take over the reigns at a club that has never won anything and turn it into a giant. Komphela shouldn't be scared to start from scratch and build his own legacy just like Eric Tinkler did with Cape Town City when he left Orlando Pirates in 2016.
For instance, Dan Malesela made a name for himself at Chippa United when everyone thought it was a bad move, and while he struggled at times, his workrate and the foundation he laid are what everyone remembers.
A stable club with a boss that's be willing to give Komphela a fair chance to work on his project would do the Kroonstad-born mentor a world of good, but at the end of the day, it's up to him to choose his next move wisely.
There was also a rumour that Stuart Baxter wanted him as his assistant at Bafana Bafana, but he shouldn't take that risk, at least for now because what he has achieved over the past few years warranties him to once again continue to be his own boss than to take instructions from another head coach.
