Cardoso: Kaizer Chiefs will win a major trophy this season

With the PSL title and Nedbank Cup still in sight, Kaizer Chiefs defender Daniel Cardoso says they have to clinch the remaining silverware.

“Yes, of course. It’s vital that we end the season with silverware. We are on a very good run at the moment and we still have two trophies to play for,” Cardoso told Goal.

The 27-year-old recently made his presence in the first team after a long time on the sidelines playing second fiddle to the likes of Eric Mathoho and Lorenzo Gordinho among others.

After deputizing for Gordinho over the weekend against Ajax Cape Town, Cardoso rewarded himself with a goal which earned the team a point in the Mother City as they came from a goal down to draw 1-1.

They are currently on a six-match unbeaten run in all competitions and Cardoso believes it’s vital that they focus on their own race and not worry about their competitors.

“We still have the Nedbank Cup and the league title so I think if we carry on winning and run our own race and not worry about the teams that are behind us," he stressed.

“They must try and catch us first and stop us from playing our game,” Cardoso said.

With Gordinho and Mathoho available for Saturday’s Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates, it will be interesting to see if coach Steve Komphela rewards Cardoso by keeping him in the starting eleven.
