AFC Cup 2019: Minerva Punjab and Chennaiyin FC to play from Ahmedabad

I-League and Indian Super League (ISL) champions Minerva Punjab and Chennaiyin FC are likely to play their continental home matches at the TranStadia Arena in Ahmedabad, Goal can confirm.

It was previously touted that Minerva would play at the Guru Gobind Singh Stadium in Jalandhar but recent developments indicate that the Chandigarh-based side are in "advanced talks" with the TranStadia management.

By virtue of being the I-League champions, Minerva will play in the AFC Champions League Play-off round whereas Chennaiyin will play in the AFC Cup preliminary stage. 

Minerva Punjab have parted ways with coach Khogen Singh and have appointed former assistant coach Sachin Badhade as the new head coach. They have also announced that Paul Munster is set to take over as Technical Director. 

They have also signed Yu Kuboki as a replacement of Bhutanese forward Chencho Gyeltshen.

Whereas, John Gregory will continue as the head coach of Chennaiyin. He will be assisted by fellow Englishman Paul Groves. The Marina Machans have signed defender Tondonba Singh, midfielder Sinivasan Pandiyan and goalkeeping duo Sanjiban Ghosh and Nikhil Bernard for the upcoming season. Mizo trio Issac Vanmalsawma, Zohmingliana Ralte and Laldinliana Renthlei have also signed the dotted line. 

Chennaiyin FC inspected the ground last week and the final decision on the same is expected soon. 

Chennaiyin secured their continental ticket after beating Bengaluru FC 3-2 in the ISL Final.
