Napoli are yet to make an offer for Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, according to his agent Nico Vaesen, while adding that the 30-year-old is waiting on a concrete approach from the Serie A side before the end of the transfer window.
Mignolet has been relegated from first to third-choice keeper at Anfield over the last 12 months, and is thought to be keen on a move away from Merseyside following the arrival of Alisson Becker from Roma.
The Belgian shot-stopper has retained the number 22 jersey for Jurgen Klopp’s side, but after featuring in only 22 games for the club throughout the 2017-18 season will be looking to secure more regular playing time elsewhere.
Napoli have been linked with Mignolet and are thought to be looking to add an experienced goalkeeper to their squad following the departure of former Reds man Pepe Reina to league rivals Milan.
Vaesen, however, said that the Italian outfit are yet to formally lodge a bid, telling Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli: “We will wait over the next few days to see if they will present an offer.
“Considering that the market will close in a few days, I imagine that we will have to do it soon if we want to make a deal everyone will agree to.”
The Partenopei have previously been linked with a move for the Liverpool man, with Vaesen adding: “The interest is not new. Napoli like Mignolet.
“They have previously enquired about his availability in other transfer windows. This will not be the last word on a move to them.”
Napoli have signed both youngster Alex Meret and Greece international Orestis Karnezis from Udinese during the off-season, but Mignolet offers additional credentials that may be attractive to manager Carlo Ancelotti.
The keeper has never won a major honour in English football but featured for the Reds in both the 2015-16 EFL Cup Final and 2015-16 Europa League Final.
He was displaced as first-choice goalkeeper during the 2017-18 season in favour of Loris Karius though, and with Alisson’s signing is unlikely to have a future at Anfield.
Liverpool start their Premier League campaign at home to West Ham on August 12 before travelling to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace eight days later on August 20.
