    WHAT HAPPENED?

Bafana Bafana striker Zakhele Lepasa struggled for action in the entire 2024/25 season, where he made no competitive appearances for his former club, Orlando Pirates.

The team's technical team opted to release him in the ongoing transfer window after adding Yanela Mbuthuma to their attacking department.

Lepasa, who was with the Bafana Bafana team that played in the CHAN competition, has not yet secured a move to a new team.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Premier Soccer League newbies Durban City have been heavily linked with the versatile and experienced striker to bolster their attack.

Initially, Kaizer Chiefs had been linked with the forward, but they opted to go for Etiosa Ighodaro to help Flavio Silva, who had been initially signed.

Coach Gavin Hunt, who had initially worked with Lepasa at the now-defunct SuperSport United, has opened up about Lepasa's potential signing.

    WHAT HUNT SAID

“I let the management handle it; I’m not getting involved, [but]I can only do what I can do," he told the media.

“We all know we need to certainly get another one or two in. We’ve got 17 outfield players with three keepers. So you need to get one or two obviously, in certain positions.

"We know that, we’ve known that since the start of the season, but obviously, free agents. There are a lot of things we need, let’s not kid ourselves."

    WHAT NEXT?

Under Hunt, Durban City have managed to collect eight points from five games after two wins, as many draws, and a loss.

However, they have scored just four goals and conceded three, explaining why it is logical for Hunt to add a proven goal-scorer to help the team.
