Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson provides update on Max Cleworth after defensive star forced off during Leyton Orient clash

In the dying moments of Wrexham's dull 0-0 draw away at Leyton Orient, Cleworth limped off the pitch due to injury. It was a scary moment for Parkinson and Wrexham fans who have enjoyed his stellar start to their League One campaign.

The draw left Wrexham in second place, but the biggest concern for the former Bolton manager was whether he will be able to field last season's Young Player of the Year in the coming weeks. Parkinson explained what has happened to Cleworth but couldn't go into much detail.

Parkinson said: "It is his ankle ligaments but the extent of it, we won't know until later. We just hope Max isn't too bad but injuries happen. That is part and parcel of football.

"You have got to cope with them and we have got good players like Dan Scarr who has been outstanding in everything he has done since he has walked in the building. We have got Lewis Brunt who has obviously been waiting for his opportunity as well, we have got Will Boyle and George Evans can play there. Of course we want everybody available and fit but the reality is you are going to get injuries throughout the course of the season."

Cleworth will have to undergo more tests to figure out exactly what time frame he will be sidelined for but in the short term, Parkinson will have to rely on the depth of his squad, which has worked in his favour already this season. Paul Mullin missed the start of the campaign due to injury but his replacement Jack Marriott stepped up and helped Wrexham enjoy a strong start.
