Mamelodi SundownsWHAT HAPPENED?
Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has identified their major undoing during the FIFA Club World Cup campaign.
Speaking specifically about how they fared against Fluminense and objectives for that game, Williams also reflected and identified that a big letdown for them came in the game against Borussia Dortmund.

“We have picked up that it’s the efficiency [that is the difference]; they (Fluminense) don’t need a lot of chances to hurt you. We saw the half chance they got; they hit the post, so they wait for the moment to hurt you,” Williams said, as per iDiski Times.
“Before we came here, our objective was four points, and we thought it would be enough; normally it’s enough, but it wasn’t to be – you know. We know where we let ourselves down was the Dortmund game,” he continued.
“For us on the other side, we had so many chances throughout the tournament, and our efficiency, our conversion rate, is probably not the best, but I’m just proud of the boys for the effort, the fight, and the ability to play our own football.
“We’re so disappointed, but also proud of the achievement. We came here with an objective. We wanted to go to the next round; it wasn’t to be, but the ability to play our football, compete, and show we can compete at this level is amazing.”

The Bafana Bafana goalkeeper also praised his teammates and how they played overall.
“It’s what we’re proud of. People thought we would come here and be defensive, but no, we played our football, so I’m proud of the boys. There are a lot of lessons to take, definitely."
“We can only be proud… We have put Sundowns and South African football on the map; people will take a keen interest now.”

Sundowns were eliminated after a 0-0 draw against Fluminense. They needed to win against the Brazilian outfit, but that did not happen, marking their end in the competition.
After Al Ahly, Wydad AC, and Esperance were eliminated, Sundowns carried Africa's hope as they had a chance of progressing, but in the end, that was not possible.
They left the tournament with one win against Ulsan HD, a draw against Fluminense, and the loss that they suffered against Borussia Dortmund.

After the disappointment in the CAF Champions League and now in the Club World Cup, it is time for the Brazilians to get back to the drawing board and analyse themselves, their weaknesses and strengths, and what to do about them.
The next thing for them is the preseason before the next season begins. Although their fans expect them to defend the Premier Soccer League title, they would want more success in the Champions League and domestic cups.
