    WHAT HAPPENED?

Rhulani Mokwena helped Mamelodi Sundowns win back-to-back Premier Soccer League crowns and an African Football League title.

He then left for Botola Pro League outfit Wydad Casablanca - of course, after falling out with Masandawana.

Things didn't work out in Morocco as anticipated, rendering the 38-year-old a free agent.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mokwena has been linked to many teams in Mzansi and abroad.

Egyptian giants Zamalek are one of the teams that the 38-year-old was associated with after Jose Peseiro's exit.

At home, Orlando Pirates are in the market for a coach following Jose Riveiro's exit to Al Ahly.

Mokwena served as Milutin Sredojevic's assistant coach from 2017 to 2019 before taking over as the caretaker coach briefly following Micho's dismissal, and is ready to work for them again if given a chance.

    WHAT MOKWENA SAID

“No, I don’t know [about Pirates interest in me], I’ve just arrived back in the country, to be honest, I don’t know,” he told Soccer Africa.

“Of course, I would consider it. It’s a big club, and it still has people who are very close to me and to my heart.

“I’m very, very fond of Dr [Irvin] Khoza, very fond and he will always have a very special place in my heart. I’ve been fortunate enough that, as a coach, I’ve learnt a lot about leadership from the best football leaders on the continent," Mokwena continued

“Dr Khoza is number one, for sure, in general knowledge, history, geography, football, humanity, religion, and everything.

“Dr Patrice Motsepe, the things that he taught me, the same. Another one is [Hicham Ait Mena], the president of Wydad Casablanca, an incredible human being.

"I really enjoyed my time working for the president of Wydad," he concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Mokwena has publicly shown interest in working for Pirates; it is interesting to see whether the management will give him a chance.

Regardless of the decision, Mokwena has what it takes to deliver anywhere on the continent. It is just a matter of time before he gets another team to coach.
