    WHAT HAPPENED?

Rhulani Mokwena had a successful stint at Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons.

He won two Premier Soccer League titles and the African Football League crown before joining Wydad Casablanca.

However, he fell out with the Botola Pro League side and is currently a free agent.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mokwena has been linked to a host of clubs, including his former team Orlando Pirates, who are currently without a coach after Jose Riveiro's exit.

However, recently, there have been speculations that the 38-year-old will be joining Zamalek.

Nevertheless, his agent Steve Kapeluschnik insists no offer has come from Cairo, and nothing is as tangible as the majority of South Africans claim.

    WHAT KAPELUSCHNIK SAID

“Zamalek is a big name in Africa and the Arab world, for sure,” Kapeluschnik told Kora Plus in a recent interview.

“However, we have not received any official offer, and there has been no communication with Zamalek officials at present.”

    WHAT NEXT?

A move to Egypt looks like a good challenge, just like the recent one in Morocco, but the pressure to deliver for Zamalek will be immense.

If Pirates approach Mokwena, the chance of plying his trade at home might be appealing to the coach and his technical team, especially since they will then go toe-to-toe with Sundowns, the club who jettisoned Mokwena at the peak of his success.
