    WHAT HAPPENED?

Relebohile Mofokeng's father Sechaba believes his son needs little time to spark if he is to sign for FC Barcelona.

The Orlando Pirates midfielder is said to have attracted the interest of the former European champions.

    WHAT SECHABA SAID

“To be honest, I was shocked when I first heard it. Rele and Barcelona! Those two things are on different planets in different worlds. But I said, 'if you are doing well, good things will come to you',” Sechaba told Soccer Laduma.

“If it happens that he gets a contract there, I will give him only three months and he will be shining in the FC Barcelona team."

Mofokeng’s father also revealed that his son has heard the news of Barcelona’s interest, but he has encouraged him to remain focused and continue working hard.

“I told him if you are doing well, you will have more teams looking at you – but you have to do more. You haven’t done anything yet. Just show them what you are made of and they will realise we have gold in Mzansi.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mofokeng appears to be a player who is destined to play in Europe and become a big player in future.

He underwent trials at Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers last season but no move materialised.

Now Barcelona and Scottish giants Rangers are also being mentioned as a possible destination for him in the near future.

So convincing is Mofokeng that his former Pirates teammate Kermit Erasmus believes the Bafana Bafana star can form a formidable partnership with Spain star Lamine Yamal at the Blaugrana.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MOFOKENG?

The January player transfer window is fast approaching and it remains to be seen if Mofokeng will move then, or see out the season with Pirates as they seek to win the domestic league for the first time since 2012, and the Caf Champions League since 1995.

While he is being tipped to succeed in Europe, Bafana coach Hugo Broos does not believe he is ready to start for the national team.

Mofokeng has, though, spent most of his nascent career proving doubters wrong and will back himself to break into the national first XI.
