    WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have met once this season across all competitions.

The meeting was at the FNB Stadium on February 1, where a controversial Patrick Maswanganyi Panenka penalty gave Bucs a 1-0 win.

The next Soweto derby has been scheduled for May 3, where the Glamour Boys will be the home team.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

This has been arguably one of the best seasons for the outgoing Pirates coach Jose Riveiro.

He has helped Bucs get into the Caf Champions League semi-final as well as the last four of the Nedbank Cup.

The Sea Robbers are also chasing the Premier Soccer League title.

It explains why the players would be hoping to get positive results in the remaining assignments of the 2024/25 season.

The Sea Robbers might miss four key players ahead of the game against Chiefs.

Youngster Relebohile Mofokeng has been a key player for Riveiro's men. However, just like Patrick Maswanganyi, Thalente Mbatha and Tapelo Xoki, Mofokeng is walking on a tight line since he is one booking away from suspension.

With the Nedbank Cup semi-final game against Marumo Gallants scheduled for Sunday and the Magesi PSL on the horizon, it is interesting to see how the affected personnel will manage themselves to avoid missing out on this big fixture.

  • WHAT NEXT?

Bucs are riding high in confidence after eliminating MC Alger from the Caf Champions League quarter-final.

They will now be going for nothing less than victory on Sunday against Gallants to stand a chance of defending their Nedbank Cup title.
