For the first time in recent memory, Kaizer Chiefs have made serious moves in the transfer market, and the message is loud and clear - they're here to compete.

Under the guidance of head coach Nasreddine Nabi, the Glamour Boys have brought in a wave of exciting new talent, signalling a renewed ambition to challenge for top honours. After missing out on this season’s MTN8, Chiefs are clearly done playing second fiddle. Now, they find themselves firmly in the mix for the Premier Soccer League title, neck and neck with Sekhukhune United.

    Position: Attacking midfielder

    Age: 27

    At Chiefs, the veteran playmaker is Gaston Sirino, who can sometimes be unreliable and age is no longer on his side, which is they the club roped in Ethan Chislett, a typical No.10 in his style of play and one who is said to have an impressive final pass. He was not too convincing in pre-season, but like Silva, he may prove his doubters wrong once he gets the green light.

    Position: Left back

    Age: 25

    Nkanyiso Shinga has not played a competitive match for Chiefs, but he comes with a lot of expectations given where he comes from. Shinga spent all of his career in Portugal, where he turned out for second division outfits like Alverca and Covilha. A lot is expected from him, but in the meantime, it is a waiting game for Amakhosi fans.

    Position: Left winger

    Age: 22

    With the acquisition of Asenele Velebayi, Chiefs are showing their intent of having a youthful squad and are not scared to take any risks with the young players. The former Cape Town Spurs forward may have to wait a while longer before making his debut for Chiefs, as matters are sitting in boardrooms, but his potential is undeniable.

    Age: 19

    Chiefs are brave enough to make an investment in a teenager, who comes in to fill the shoes of the more experienced Tebogo Potsane. Baartman joins Chiefs as one of the most exciting youngsters, who potentially has a future with the national team if he does well at Naturena.

    Age: 24

    The Nigerian attacker has always shown glimpses of promise in his days at Chippa United, where he netted 10 league goals in the 2022/23 season. He spent time at SuperSport United and AmaZulu, where he netted five league goals each, and now at Chiefs, he is expected to hit the ground running as he is familiar with the PSL.

    Position: Midfielder

    Age: 30

    A Chiefs returnee, Lebohang Maboe, is another one of those players who are versatile and have the capacity to show up in the big moments. His league and cup-winning experience with Mamelodi Sundowns will go a long way for Amakhosi in their quest for gold this term as he makes his intentions clear

    Position: Striker

    Age: 29

    Mocked during pre-season when he could not even trap a ball, Flavio Silva cast a lot of doubt among the Amakhosi faithful. However, when he made his debut, he came off the bench to score the winner in the PSL games against Manqoba Mngqithi's side. As to whether he will continue where he left off, it remains to be seen, but for now, Silva has etched his name in Chiefs fans' hearts.

    Age: 31

    Another former Pirates player finds himself at Naturena. Paseka Mako has only played three times for Chiefs and got himself a Man of the Match against Golden Arrows. Mako's experience in high-pressure games makes him a good fit at Chiefs, as the pressure and demands are the same in either side of Soweto.

    Position: Midfielder

    Age: 28

    Siphesihle Ndlovu is one of the most dynamic midfielders in the PSL, and Chiefs are lucky to have him in their ranks. With Thabo Cele and Sibongiseni Mthethwa doing the dirty work in midfield, this allows Ndlovu to spread his wings and play in a more advanced role and join in attack.

    Chiefs finally landed their long-time target as Mayo joins the club after a short stint with Algerian outfit CR Belouizdad.     Still in the peak of his powers, Thabiso Monyane follows in the footsteps of Jimmy Tau, who first donned the No.2 jersey at Pirates before using it at Chiefs. He fits like a hand in a glove, and his efforts have earned him a call-up to Bafana Bafana, and he looks set to own the right-back role at Naturena.
