    WHAT HAPPENED?

Cape Town City confirmed the sacking of Muhsin Ertugral following a string of poor results.

This came as City failed to win their last nine Premier Soccer League games and were also knocked out of the Nedbank Cup in the Round of 32.

The club has moved in to make adjustments to their technical team after Ertugral's departure.

    WHAT CT CITY SAID

"First team coach Diogo Peral will lead the team until the end of the season, assisted by Lebogang Manyama and Roger De Sa," said City in a statement.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Naturally, it would have been expected that De Sa would be appointed as City's head coach, given the experience he has.

This is a coach who helped Pirates reach the 2013 Caf Champions League final.

In recent years, he has been working at the highest level as Carlos Queiroz's assistant in the Egypt national team as they reached the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations final.

He went to the 2022 Fifa World Cup understudying Queiroz who was then Iran's coach and the duo also worked together in the Qatar national team.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CITY?

The new technical team set up has a huge task to steer City clear of the relegation matrix as the club is currently 13th on the table.

They have seven games to do that and the PSL is the only competition they are focusing on after being knocked out of the Nedbank Cup.
