    WHAT HAPPENED?

Cape Town City have fired Muhsin Ertugral following a difficult spell that has left the Citizens starring relegation and last weekend's defeat by fellow strugglers Marumo Gallants was the final straw.

The 65-year-old has been sacked after 14 games in charge as a technical director as the club waited for a substantive coach to officially replace Eric Tinkler.

    WHAT CT CITY SAID

"After technical discussions, the club and Muhsin Ertugral have agreed mutually to part ways," the club said in a statement.

"The decision comes as a collective in the best interest of the club as we look to end the 24/25 season as strong as possible.

"We thank Muhsin for his professional and earnest contribution."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

After Ertugral started his tenure on a promising note by beating Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, City went on a downward spiral.

Having failed to win their last nine Premier Soccer League matches, City are 13th on the table with just two points better than SuperSport United who are at the relegation cutoff point.

They last tasted victory in January and were also knocked out of the Nedbank Cup in the Round of 32 by Sekhukhune United.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CITY?

Ertugral recently indicated that City had already identified a substantive coach and the Citizens will use the current Fifa international break to appoint their new man and help him familiarise himself with first-team business.

The incoming coach will be tasked with steering the club from just above the relegation zone to safety.
