    WHAT HAPPENED?

Nasreddine Nabi orchestrated Kaizer Chiefs' 2-1 win over Orlando Pirates to clinch the Nedbank Cup last Saturday.

This follows a difficult season for Amakhosi, who started the season without participating in the MTN8 before missing out on the Carling Knockout and have been struggling for a top-eight spot in the Premier Soccer League campaign.

Former Chiefs winger Zebulon Nhlapo feels Nabi should be retained as Amakhosi coach amid rumours of the Tunisian facing the exit door.

    WHAT NHLAPO SAID

"How do you replace someone who ends your 10-year trophy drought in his first season?" said Zebulon Nhlapo as per KickOff.

"He deserves a chance. He was given an opportunity, and finally, we have a cup to celebrate. The man has truly done his best to restore the club's dignity, even though it has been a challenging journey.

"He utilised his skills to get us to this point, and the supporters stood by him through thick and thin. Chiefs have loyal supporters who remain faithful even during tough times. The stadiums are always full," added the former Amakhosi wideman.

"Now, it is up to the club officials to show their support by giving the coach another opportunity. Uzanayo manje [He's coming along]. It’s not right to sack him now that he is finally implementing his vision.

"Every year, we change coaches, but this current one has found his rhythm. Why would we want to let him go now?"

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

After calls for Nabi to be fired were gathering momentum, it seems the Nedbank Cup win has settled the dust.

The Amakhosi coach is now almost assured of his future at Naturena and he has even commented about the security of his job.

But that leaves the former Young Africans coach under pressure to build Chiefs into a competitive outfit that can challenge for the PSL title next season.

    WHAT NEXT FOR NABI?

Following the Nedbank Cup triumph, Chiefs would want to build on that when they visit Sekhukhune United on Saturday.

This is a team known for being inconsistent this season by losing just on the backdrop of a big win.
