  • Rashford having tough time at United
  • Advised to try and enjoy his football
  • Forward looking to regain form in 2024-25
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Rashford has endured a tough time at Old Trafford recently. The forward managed just seven goals in the 2023-24 season as the Red Devils ended the season down in eighth place, the club's worst ever Premier League finish. Rashford's underwhelming form also saw him miss out on a place in Gareth Southgate's England squad for Euro 2024.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Rashford has been linked with a move away from Manchester United this summer but looks set to stay at Old Trafford. Manager Erik ten Hag has vowed the forward will bounce back this season, while Gascoigne has admitted he's a fan of Rashford but would like to see him enjoying his football more when he's on the pitch for United.

  • WHAT GASCOIGNE SAID

Speaking on behalf of Sports Talk Philly, Gascoigne told GOAL: "Marcus Rashford, I’m a bit disappointed he didn’t get picked for the Euros because I like Rashford. The thing with Rashford is, he’s just got to smile a bit, f*cking hell! Buy him something to make him smile. It just feels like he’s not enjoying it. He’s playing for Manchester United and with the wages he’s on, he’s got a life of luxury there and he’s got to enjoy it. I didn’t like it when some players scored and didn’t celebrate because you’ve got to realise - a bloke will take his three sons to the match, say Wembley, it costs them a lot of money to get there, money on food, watching the game and then these players just go off and don’t appreciate it - if it wasn’t for the fans coming to watch me play, I wouldn’t have been able to afford the nice holidays I had, or the nice cars and jewellery. I’m like the gladiator, entertaining fans and that’s what I like to think I did."

    WHAT NEXT FOR RASHFORD?

Rashford will face increased competition for a place in the team this season with Amad Diallo, Joshua Zirkzee, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon Sancho all currently battling for a place in the attack. The England star did start in Manchester United's opening win against Fulham and will hope to keep his place for Saturday's trip to Brighton.
