    Another injury setback for Zwane

Themba Zwane lasted just 20 minutes after coming on as a second half substitute when Mamelodi Sundowns beat Magesi FC 3-0 in a Premier Soccer League match in Sunday.

The Masandawana captain was returning from another injury and he is now back on the treatment table.

Coach Miguel Cardoso has opened up on Zwane's fitness state and other players who have been struggling with injuries.

“We had a total clearance for Themba to play," said Cardoso as per KickOff.

"Obviously, we knew Themba, Thapelo [Morena], and also [Siyabonga] Mabena were players that should not play for more than 30 minutes, and that’s why some of the substitutions were late in order to arrive on the period in terms of the medical and performance department could advise and put them on the pitch.

"Unfortunately, he had a small problem. I hope so. It's not the same injury he had before. He had a muscle injury. Let's see what we get there, if it’s a knee or a lower part of the leg," added the Portuguese trainer.

"I think there was a punch from a contact.  We have to wait for the exam and scan so that we have the right assessment before we make a conclusion.”

    Squad depth tested

While Cardoso says Morena is not fit to play for more than 30 minutes, the right-back was on the pitch against Magesi until he was substituted in the 75th minute.

The coach's injury worries come despite Sundowns being a club previously known not to be affected by the absence of some players due to their depth and quality in their squad.

But strangely, the Brazilians have signed just two new players after at least 12 players went through the exit door on a permanent basis on on loan.

    What next for Sundowns?

Sundowns are now preparing to visit Marumo Gallants at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium on Wednesday.

Collecting maximum points from that match will guarantee them top spot although their nearest challengers will be having a game in hand.
