    Zwane injured again

A visibly emotional Themba Zwane walked off the pitch after just 20 minutes of being introduced from the bench in the Premier Soccer League match against Magesi FC, which Masandawana won 3-0 at Lucas Moripe on Sunday.

It was his first match since returning from a thigh injury, which he sustained against Orlando Pirates in the first leg of the MTN8 semi-finals in August.

Masandawana coach Miguel Cardoso has commented on the latest fitness setback his captain has suffered.

    Cardoso comments on Zwane's injury

“Well, let’s see what is happening,” Cardoso told SuperSport TV.

“As I understand from the doctor it’s not the same thing that he had before. Let’s hope it’s nothing serious. Let’s hope so.”

    Bafana vice-captain risks missing Afcon

At 36, age seems to be catching up with Zwane, who spent the better part of last season trying to heal from a torn Achilles tendon.

That has affected his international career and he last played for Bafana Bafana in October 2024 and the fitness troubles threaten to have him miss the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

Zwane's troubles with injuries could justify why Cardoso did not play him in both legs of the CAF Champions League final against Pyramids and South Africa coach Hugo Broos has advised Sundowns to be careful with the way they handle their captain.

    What next?

Cardoso is waiting for a conclusive report from the Sundowns doctor on Zwane.

That will determine the amount of time the veteran midfielder will be out recovering from the latest injury.
