    WHAT HAPPENED?

In the last couple of months, Kaizer Chiefs have released the likes of Christian Saile and Ranga Chivaviro, who failed to make the desired impact on the team's attacking department.

They have signed six players in the ongoing transfer window, among them Flavio Silva, who is a striker.

However, the 29-year-old didn't look convincing in the recent pre-season camp in the Netherlands.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mamelodi Sundowns' out-of-favour striker Etiosa Ighodaro has been heavily linked with the Soweto giants, with leaks hinting he has already been signed by Amakhosi.

Nevertheless, GOAL understands the Premier Soccer League champions want a fee for the 24-year-old.

Former Amakhosi defender Patrick Mayo revealed there was contact about the availability of his son Khanyisa, who is contracted to CR Belouizdad.

Chiefs legend Tsepo Masilela believes Mayo can't deliver frequently enough for the Nasreddine Nabi-led team.

    WHAT MASILELA SAID

"If you look at the player, he's also not with the current Bafana setup, then you ask yourself questions: why is he not there? Is he good enough to play for Bafana? When you come to Kaizer Chiefs, I don't really think he's that finisher we're looking for, a top striker, 15 [goals a season striker]," he told Soccerbeat YouTube Channel

"When [Mayo] is hot, he's hot, but when he's not hot, you start scratching your head a bit.

"I'd say a no for Kaizer Chiefs because in their attacking, they have 'Mdu' [Mduduzi Shabalala], [Mfundo] Vilakazi, [Glody] Lilepo, [Pule] Mmodi, we're still looking for that striker, a finisher," Masilela added.

"We're hungry for that top striker, they'll have to go buy that strikers, top finishers are very rare and hard to get.

"But if you have you splash the money on that position," he concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Like any other coach, Nabi would love to have all his players available to prepare for the new season but with the transfer window lasting until September, there's plenty of chances to land the right player, for the right price after the season has kicked off.

His currently available attackers have another chance on Saturday to give him a reason why he shouldn't be worried about a new striker when Chiefs play Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko in the Toyota Cup at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
